The Bhagavad Gītā teachings begin not in peace, but in confusion, and there lies its eternal relevance.
Before wisdom dawns, there must be a crisis profound enough to shake the foundations of false certainty.
Arjuna’s trembling bow, his tears, his inability to act, these are not signs of weakness, but of awakening. For only when one truly confronts one’s inner turmoil does the possibility of transformation arise.
The battlefield of Kurukṣetra is not merely a place in ancient India, it is the inner landscape of every human being.
- It is where our values are tested.
- Where the mind oscillates between duty and desire
- Between the clarity of reason and the fog of emotion.
Each of us, at some moment in life, stands where Arjuna once stood.
Overwhelmed by attachment.
Blinded by love and loss.
Paralyzed by the unbearable conflict between what we must do and what we wish to avoid.
Yet, it is precisely at this point of collapse that the Guru appears.
Sometimes as a person
Sometimes as a light that leads to teaching
Sometimes as silence that triggers the curiosity to know.
So, Krishna’s first gift to Arjuna is not instruction, but compassion.
It is not philosophy, but understanding.
Because it is only when the disciple surrenders his arrogance of illusion of self-sufficiency does true dialogue begin.
The Gītā teaches that clarity is born not from resistance, but from surrender.
Not from escape, but from inquiry.
When we dare to look directly at our confusion without judgment, we begin to see that the battlefield was never outside.
It is within, and its resolution comes not through victory over others, but through knowledge of the Self over the ignorance of the individuality.
Therefore, to see through the eyes of wisdom is to recognize that what we call suffering is often the universe’s way of redirecting us toward truth.
The same emotions that once enslaved the mind become gateways to liberation when illuminated by understanding.
The war of Kurukṣetra, then, is not a tragedy, it is the beginning of awakening.
And so, like Arjuna, may we each have the courage to pause before action.
To listen before reacting.
And to seek the eternal within the fleeting.
For when knowledge dawns, the battlefield itself becomes sacred.
And every struggle becomes a step toward freedom.
