On Courtesy

Courtesy is an expression of civility and humanity, just as it is also a silent declaration of emotional intelligence and common sense.

It reveals a profound yet subtle understanding that living in society demands sensitivity, respect, and a certain lightness in the way we interact with each other.

To be courteous, therefore, is not merely to follow social rules, but to recognize the “other” as worthy of consideration and appreciation, regardless of circumstances, differences, or personal interests.

In this sense, courtesy becomes a form of harmony in action, a conscious choice to reduce friction, avoid unnecessary conflict, and contribute to a more balanced and humane environment.

Thus, a courteous person is like a morning breeze on a summer day, i.e., discreet, almost imperceptible, yet profoundly welcome. Their presence does not impose, does not invade, and does not demand, it welcomes.

In a world that is increasingly fast-paced, reactive, and often rude, courtesy stands out not as a weakness, but as an inner refinement. It is born of an organized mind and a heart that understands that small actions like a gesture, a word, or a respectful silence, have the power to transform relationships and elevate the level of human coexistence.

To cultivate courtesy, therefore, is to cultivate a more conscious, light, and dignified way of being in the world.
