Class 99, vivekacūḍāmaṇi

Acharya Tadany.

In this mind-bending class, Acharya Tadany used the classic pot-space analogy to reveal the single cause of all suffering, I.e., the subtle body (sūkṣma śarīraṁ) acts like a clay pot that apparently “contains” unlimited consciousness, instantly creating the false individual (jīva) who believes “I am limited, I suffer, I need things.”

In waking and dream the pot is active, so we experience ourselves as a separate person. Whereas in deep sleep the pot is temporarily removed, revealing the pure, undivided consciousness that is already complete and content. Yet, upon waking up we foolishly put the pot back on and resume the drama.

The entire saṁsāra is nothing more than consciousness mistakenly believing it is trapped inside a pot made of thoughts, memories and vāsanās.

True liberation is not breaking the pot with force; it is simply knowing that the pot is made of clay (i.e., made of the same consciousness it seems to contain).

The instant this is clearly seen, the imaginary division vanishes and the unlimited sky that was never confined stands revealed as your real nature.

Tonight, when you fall into deep sleep and tomorrow when thoughts return, remember: the peace you tasted without a single object was not the absence of the pot, it was the presence of You (your True Nature).
