(Reflections on an Unfortunate Situation)

How does one describe pain?
Especially the kind
that is unwillingly placed
upon another’s heart.
The kind you prayed
you would never have to cause.
How does one make peace
with becoming the bearer
of someone else’s sorrow?
We live in a world of causes and consequences,
where every action leaves its quiet mark.
Yet one cannot help but wonder:
Why must life sometimes
drive us to such unbearable extremes?
The door is locked.
The one outside knows
it will not be opened.
Yet the knocking begins.
Then, comes the banging.
Louder.
Harder.
Again.
And again,
And again.
Each blow falls not only upon the wood,
but upon the heart
of the one sitting silently inside.
“Please…
leave.”
The plea is gentle.
The answer is another blow.
Privacy is no longer respected.
Silence is no longer honored.
Compassion is no longer heard.
The banging grows louder,
while the heart grows heavier.
What is one to do
when kindness no longer reaches
the one who refuses to listen?
Is it wrong
to remain faithful
to one’s principles?
To preserve one’s dignity
when every instinct
longs simply for peace?
Life was never promised
to be straightforward.
You will be misunderstood.
You will be insulted.
You will be disrespected.
You will be ignored.
You may even be abused.
And still,
when the noise has faded,
when everyone else has gone,
you remain.
Alone with yourself.
Alone with your conscience.
Alone with the choices
that only you must carry.
Were they right?
Were they wrong?
PERHAPS.
Sometimes, life is just like that,
it grants no certainty.
Only a quiet, unclear,
uncomfortable, undefined answer.
So, perhaps,
that silent door
was never built
to keep another out,
But to keep
one’s own soul
from being lost.

Tadany Um refúgio para a alma e um convite à consciência.

Take life lovingly, both in happiness and sorrow. There are 3 kinds of truth, what you believe, what the opposite side believes and the real truth. We learn by experience.
