The Gītā begins when a human being discovers that the way he has been understanding himself and solving his problems is no longer sufficient.

Arjuna is not an incapable or ignorant person; he is intelligent, accomplished, responsible, and guided by values. Yet, when confronted with a situation in which his emotions, values, relationships, and responsibilities collide, his usual knowledge cannot give him clarity.

His crisis therefore represents something deeply human: there are moments when what worked for us until yesterday is no longer enough to understand what is happening within us now.

This is where the Gītā becomes relevant to each of us. When our usual ways of thinking, reacting, and solving problems fail to give us peace and clarity, we may begin to ask a deeper question: “Perhaps the problem is not only what is happening to me, but also how I understand myself.”

Arjuna’s confusion thus becomes the beginning of inquiry. He is ready not merely for another opinion or another solution, but for knowledge that can transform his understanding of himself and life. The crisis becomes the doorway to wisdom.
