Without a clear understanding of the structure and purpose behind spiritual, and religious, practices, seekers often fall into mechanical routine, leading to disillusionment or skepticism (the birth of atheism).
When rituals and observances are performed without insight into how they work, the spirit of the practice is lost, leaving behind an empty shell that fails to nourish the soul.
Clarity changes everything. By discerning the means (sādhanam) from the end (sādhya), understanding that outer practices serve to purify the mind so that self-knowledge can take root, the path becomes illuminated.
With this right alignment, spiritual discipline ceases to be a burden, and liberation (mokṣa) reveals itself as an attainable reality.
